Wagaman Primary School implements the Meaningful Maths approach that integrates elements of both the New Zealand mathematics framework and the Australian curriculum. Through the explicit teaching of strategy, we aim to foster deep understanding, critical thinking and real-world application of mathematical concepts.
Our approach emphasises the development of mathematical proficiency through inquiry-based learning, problem solving and collaborative exploration. Students are encouraged to explore multiple strategies, make connections between mathematical concepts and their contexts, and develop mathematical reasoning skills.
The NZ maths framework's focus on problem solving and the Australian curriculum's emphasis on mathematical modelling and practical applications enable our students to engage with mathematics in a meaningful and relevant way that prepares them for future challenges.
