Wagaman Preschool strives to create a happy, positive start to each child’s future education and development by providing an engaging, nurturing and supportive learning environment. We offer rich play-based learning experiences that encourage children to investigate, imagine and explore, building the foundations for curiosity, confidence and a lifelong love of learning.

Our preschool program follows the Northern Territory Preschool Curriculum, which supports teachers to implement the principles and practices of the National Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). This ensures a strong, consistent approach to early childhood learning centred on belonging, being and becoming.

We provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences that respond to each child’s needs and interests. Learning through play is integral to our program, with children supported to grow as happy, confident and positive individuals within our community of learners. Social skills, wellbeing, independence and oral language development are key components of our early childhood program and are nurtured through purposeful interactions, meaningful relationships and rich learning experiences.

Our preschool operates under the Education and Care Services National Law and Education and Care Services National Regulations, ensuring high standards of safety, quality and compliance.

At Wagaman Primary School, our Transition to Year 2 classrooms provide a positive and caring learning environment for all children. Children learn best when they are actively engaged in purposeful learning activities.

The Australian Curriculum clearly defines what is taught in Years T–2. Teachers are supported by Age-Appropriate Pedagogies, enabling them to use a balanced range of teaching approaches in their classrooms. They draw on their knowledge of children’s interests, strengths and capabilities to identify the most effective ways to teach curriculum content and support early learning success.

Students in our early years classes participate in regular play-based learning through Investigations, a hands-on approach grounded in the Walker Learning Approach. Teachers design engaging, authentic and open-ended learning experiences that encourage children to investigate, explore, manipulate, create and interact. Alongside this play, teachers provide explicit instruction in the skills and knowledge of literacy, numeracy and other curriculum areas.

This approach nurtures children’s sense of self, resilience and independence. It also supports the development of strong literacy and numeracy skills within a collaborative, creative and highly engaging learning environment.
